Sumup Card Reader Instructions

To process payments all volunteers will need to download and setup the SumUp app. 

Depending on which task you are doing you may have access to a standalone card reader but these are limited so we encourage you to follow these instructions and check you can access the SumUp app before gala day. 

• Download the SumUp app from your apple or android app store;  
• Use the volunteer login details (we will send these to you separately)

  
  

  Once you are logged in SumUP should remember the login details. 

• If your card allows contactless payment you will be able use the Tap to Pay option on your phone without the need for a card reader. 
• On both the iPhone and Andriod apps you should 
  • Tap the Settings icon in the top right, select ‘Tap to Pay’ then toggle the setting ON if required.

1. Once you’re logged in on the SumUp app
2. On the SumUp app, select "Checkout" at the bottom of the screen
3. Tap the "Items" tab at the top 
4. Select the item to sell from the catalogue and quantity
5. Tap "Charge" and select "Card Reader" or “tap to pay”
6. Ask your customer to tap their card or phone. 
7. The standalone card readers will also allow customers to insert their card. They may need to verify the payment with their PIN.
8. If using your phone to take payment, it sometimes needs a bit of patience and finding the right placement. Some payment cards may need to be flipped over to get the chip right up against the phone.
